If you study or do electrical work. So you must have heard these two words earthing and grounding, and then you must have thought about what earthing and grounding is, and what is the difference between earthing and grounding.
So today we will first tell you what is Earthing Grounding. After this, we will explain the difference between these two.
First of all, you have to remember that both earthing and grounding are done in one way. Meaning, inside both of them, a wire is lifted deep into the ground and a wire is removed from it.
But now where we are connecting this wire removed from the ground, it makes a difference whether it will be called earthing or grounding.
What is Earthing
Inside the earthing, first of all we take a wire deep inside the ground and take out a wire from there. Now we connect this wire to the body of our electrical appliance.
This earthing wire is attached on a device made of body metal. Because current on a body made of metal flows easily.
Need of earthing- After earthing, if for any reason the supply wire gets crowded to the body of the equipment. So at that time the current will start going underground with the help of our earth wire. Meanwhile, even if someone comes and touches the body of the device, it does not feel current.
What is Grounding
Inside the grounding also, like earthing, a wire is first pulled out into the ground. But during grounding, we do not connect this wire to the body of the equipment.
During grounding, we connect the earth wire to the neutral of the live supply. Grounding is used to better find the way to the current.
Earthing and Grounding Difference
Earthing - Earthing is used for our safety when we have an electrical fault.
● Earthing is used for our safety in case of electrical fault.
Grounding- Grounding is used for the safety of electrical equipment when we have an electrical fault.
● Grounding is used for the safety of electrical equipment when an electrical fault occurs.
Difference between earthing and grounding
1. In earthing we connect the body and ground of the equipment. But during grounding, we connect the neutral of the electrical circuit to the ground.
2. Mostly black wire is used for grounding. And green wire is used for earthing,
3. Earthing is used to avoid electrical shock. But the main use of grounding is to protect the three phase electrical system from being unbalance.
4. Inside the grounding, the live part in which current is flowing is added to the ground. But at the time of earthing the dead part is attached to the ground. That means the part which is not in contact with the current in normal condition.
Example: We ground the neutral mean (star connection) of transformer and generator. This is called grounding.
Whereas when we transformer or any device which is made of body metal. We connect it to the ground for protection from our electrical shock, it is called earthing.
